Carum is a clear aquavit produced using twelve botanicals, including caraway, sheep’s sorrel and Aztec sweet herb. It has a long and complex palate, from traditional earthy and citrus notes through to hints of rich orange and spice.
The word aquavit derives from the Latin aqua vitae, “water of life”, and it is a distilled spirit that is principally produced in Scandinavia. Just as gin has a core of juniper, so an aqauvit has a principal note of caraway or dill seed. We are huge fans of the flavour: it’s a great drink to have by itself and it makes for some extraordinary cocktails. It’s also superb after a meal, where at least for us it seems to aid digestion as well as tasting delicious. We keep it in the freezer and serve it in frozen shot glasses, just like a vodka.
Carum is inspired by the wonderful flavours of traditional aquavits, while benefiting from the length and complexity that our tuned extraction process can achieve. The range of flavours is immense, starting from fresh herbs, grassy and earthy notes and hints of bright citrus before heading through a long journey of warm rich aromas. Highly recommended.
